| Part of my fairytale based sculptures, made from old book pages. This peticular example is 'Thumbelina', in the series there is- Sleeping Beauty Cinderella Beauty & The Beast inspired Mothersday gift and this. |
| I am an illustrator who enjoyes the themes of Fairytales and innocence. I like originality, and hand made things. I find fairytales, and Alice in wonderland my escape from this world we live in. I'm to old fashioned for it- so I like finding inspirations and being creative, and generally very obsessive. I dont like sex being used in advertising or any of that, and I dont really appriciate pervy looking art, no offence, even if it's well drawn, it just dont see why it has to have boobs the size of footballs! lol. I wont be uploading much to this page, i prefer working with websites where I control who sees my page and information: so if your interested enough, add my art page elsewhere: [link] I also find this website rather unfair because so many people arent given the recognision they deserve. I base a lot of my big projects on Alice in Wonderland, because it's history fascinates me, and it is one of my biggest passions. I collect all kinds of Alice in Wonderland objects and books, including dolls and puppets. I'm also influenced by Alice, and it's era, in the way I dress. I'd also like to mention that Im not an "Alice-Burton" fan. I am a Lewis Carroll & John Tenniel fan. Anyway, I just enjoy making things. Thanks for looking! |
I can't fault Disney too much. Though I feel they should give more credit where it is due. I mean they waited for the writer of Peter Pan to die so they could write that story. The actual auther was rumored not have wanted them to make a movie out of it.
Other than a little symbol on the cover, even the Studio Ghibli movies they did voice overs for don't really show people the story isn't actually Disney. Though if you get the newer versions of the movie they have a sniplet at the beginning of the movie stating where the movie originated. I wish they would do the same for stories they make into movies. That way people can research the original story. However, I guess they'd lose money that way.
Thankyyou
I know! Well, its the same with the fairytale stories isnt it, Cinderella etc. Written by people like The Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson. One thing I like about Disney films, classic disney atleast, is the fact they made stories such as the Brothers grimm's suitable for children so they could hear the stories too, its just a shame that people dont look into where the original story came from once they've grown older.
Peter Pan is a classic example, as you said, there was a question on yahoo answers a few weeks back "who is tinkerbell" and everyone answered that she was a character from a disney film. Its quite sadenning really.
I like talking to you

I love a lot of Burton's movies.. I just don't think this is going to be one.
I love your idea of the white rose painted red. It's a good idea.
It's actually horrible to say, but I don't think many Disney movies are actually by disney. I mean look at all the Ghibli movies they bought out. So many people think they were made by disney and not just voice overed by disney. Peter Pan also wasn't actually by Disney and is a great read if you find the original.
Not that I dislike Disney movies. I really like most of them. People never seem to care who actually wrote the stories.

Some of the BurtonAlice fans are already convinced Wonderland was meant to be like what Burton's done to it... its increasingly more and more frustrating. Some people still think Alice in Wonderland is a disney creation. *rolls eyes*
Poor Dodgson
I agree about films lacking originality these days, I can suggest a film to you, that you may like, 'Blood Tea and Red String' stunning stop motion animation, that took about 13 years to make. I think you will like it, its really beautifuly made, it is an adult fairytale, a lovestory, its very sweet.
My artwork, is heavily influenced by Tim Burton's nightmare before christmas- the textures in the puppets, the disproportioned puppets etc. I have a deep appriciation for the puppets and sets in that film, thats why I love it. But my style has developed through various things that I love, mainly, Alice in Wonderland, and the work of Lotte Reiniger- her fragile elegant silhouette puppets.
Plus he's making his own story- and calling it 'Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland'..... >
Ive rambled too, I probably havn't made any sense, I cant type today >_<

"And what is the use of a book without pictures or conversations"
I love Alice in Wonderland. It's one of my favorite stories ever, and I feel that this view Burton is trying to take is going to ruin the story and people aren't going to see what the true story was like, or see the point in reading it. There was so much thought and imagination in the original story, and I don't think any movie has ever really touched on that. There are few movies out today that even express a sense of real imagination or even originality.
I also think movies shown in front of a blue screen almost always lack good acting. I'll most likely see the movie, but I don't think I could ever really compare the Burton wonderland with the original Alice in Wonderland. I can certainly see why you are worried about people confusing you with a Burton Alice fan.
Your art is amazing. Once the movie is out I can see people thinking you were actually inspired by Tim Burton. You'll have to time stamp everything haha.
But hey. Everything with Johnny Depp in has to be amazing right? *sarcasm* I'm looking forwards to the day that Hollywood feels the need to search for new original talent and not just someone who is in a lot of movies and is popular. Depps talent is slowly dying. He's a good actor, but he's playing too many of the same roles. I want to see something really different from him. I would have thought Tim Burton would be the one guy to want fresh acting, but I guess not.
Anyways I've rambled enough haha.

Some Burton fans want to murder you for saying any tiny thing negative about him =/ it's redicilous.
I agree completely... it almost looks lazy to me. I heard that 2 weeks was filmed on location, and the rest infront of a green screen. Enough to put me off. Older Alice film adaptions are far better, they went to the effort to make stunning sets and costumes.
Plus the fans are annoying me, talking about the thing asif they're die hard Alice in Wonderland fans and know everything about it- when they constantly get their facts wrong, and had to be told by Burton to like it in the first place.
This is why I am going to make myself a "Carrolian" badge. As I tend to dress like Alice in Wonderland, and occasionaly have a jack skellington bag, I dont want to be mistaken for a BurtonAlice fan... I want to be known as a Lewis Carroll fan! lol
sorry ramble >_<
